The Yalta Conference
The Yalta Conference occurred in February of 1945. British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, Soviet leader Joseph Stalin and U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt all attended this meeting. During the conference, the three leaders agreed to demand Germany’s unconditional surrender. The map to the left, shows where the conference took place. It took place in Crimea, near the towns of Foros and Sanatornoe. |
The Berlin Wall
The artifact to the left is a piece of the Berlin Wall. The main purpose of this Berlin Wall was to keep Western fascists from entering East Germany. When word spread that the Berlin Wall was no longer need, because it was now allowed to cross the border freely. Crowds swarmed the Berlin war with hammers and picks, and began to chip away at the wall little by little. The Berlin Wall was one of the most powerful and important symbol of the Col War. |
Apollo 11
This was NASA's first successful trip to the moon. The artifact to the left is what the astronauts food would have been in. The Apollo 11 mission was one of the most significant events in the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union. The USSR launched Sputnik, the first satellite. So the U.S. used the already obtained spacecraft knowledge to create the Apollo 11 space trip. |
